OUR INSIGHT: CREATING LASTING CHANGE FROM WITHIN

Housing Development,
Vietnam 2008
Although we are conscious of what is happening in our communities, L.I.B. recognizes the various degrees of social complexity on a global scale. We believe by aiding in the empowerment and progression of under-developed communities, it will not only increase the quality of a life and begin to equalize human rights but it will also build a stronger global connection and synergy - ultimately shrinking the world and creating one global community.

Through on-the-ground extensive research we have defined four primary sectors of global poverty; Devastation, Disaster Relief, Reform and Integration. Each sector has unique and specific characteristics in its environment, government, economic, social and cultural plights. However the basic needs of survival are equivalent, every living being on this earth requires food, water and shelter to survive. These basic needs are followed by safety and security, belonging and love, self-esteem and finally, personal fulfillment.

OUR OBJECTIVES: STIMULATE AND FOSTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITIES

People need to feel connected to and be a part of their community and their respective changes. Therefore, L.I.B. exists to empower and work beside the people in underdeveloped communities to accomplish various goals and projects to increase living conditions based on the needs of the people. Our projects will also align and support the four pillars of sustainable development (economic, environmental, social and culture) in seven key areas:
  1. Basic Human Needs - improve food security, access to clean water, sanitation and housing
  2. Gender Equality - provide equal opportunities for men and women
  3. Human Rights - advocate for the development, accountability and equalization of human rights
  4. Environment - protect the existing environment and develop communities in a "green" manner
  5. Child Protection - relief for children affected by armed conflict, sex trade and general harm
  6. Health - control and prevent communicable diseases, improve sexual and reproductive health, safe motherhood
  7. Education - provide opportunities for children to attend school at all levels
OUR PROJECT: LEARNING CENTRES IN INDIA

During our research and development trip we met with Indian Non-Government Organizations (NGO's) and community members and concluded that the accessibility to quality education was severely lacking and was the main contributor to the cycle of poverty. The Indian government has banned child labour and provides free education for children up to the age of 14 under the Children's Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. However, both free education and the ban on child labour are difficult to enforce due to economic disparity and social conditions. Eighty percent of all recognized schools at the Elementary Stage are government run or supported, making it the largest provider of education in the country, but the shortage of resources and lack of political will corrupts the system. The system also suffers from massive gaps including high pupil to teacher ratios, shortage of infrastructure and poor level of teacher training.

Our learning centres are created to provide quality and assessable education to children in slum communities to give them a better foundation for life. To engage the children it involves creating awareness in the home, providing additional learning centers to accommodate specific niche groups of child needs, vocational training for young women and dropouts, while providing better training and support for teachers.

OUR VISION: BREAK THE CYCLE - DRIVE THE CHANGE

L.I.B. aspires to work in partnership with communities in developing countries to contribute to the stimulation of development of a healthier and safer community by improving living conditions; such as shelter, water, sanitation, education, and (but not limited to) their economic positions. Thus, building a stronger foundation to enhance the security and health of an individual, family, community and ultimately a country.

As part of our core belief system, L.I.B. recognizes the importance and value of collaborating directly with the people living in developing communities as they know firsthand the major elements contributing to their social standing and what is needed to break the perpetual cycle of poverty. Therefore, every development project will be designed in collaboration with various levels of regional and international governments, non-government organizations and individuals in the communities. With this type of collaboration we will achieve the biggest impact of sustainable development creating a safe environment to motivate and encourage growth in humanity.

BRINGING 'IT' ALL TOGETHER

By encouraging development within a community's means, it will not only strengthen and empower the individuals and their communities, but also improve the environment and economy while preserving heritage and culture – thus empowering a community to change from within.
